KENNETH  E. F.  WATT  received his Ph.D. in Zoology (University of Chicago), and an honorary LL.D. (Simon Fraser University), for work on mathematical models of ecosystems and societies.  Dr. Watt has been a consultant to and lecturer for business groups, government and university organizations, and international organizations in the United States, China, Thailand, The Netherlands, Belgium, etc. (UNESCO, WHO, NATO, Austrian National Academy of Sciences, Beijing Normal University, The Executive Committee, University for Presidents, Congress, the White House, etc.)  His books include Systems Analysis in Ecology, Ecology and Resource Management, Principles of Environmental Science, The Titanic Effect: Planning for the Unthinkable, The Unsteady State, Understanding the Environment, Taming the Future, Environment in The Yearbook of Science and the Future, and Encyclopedia Britannica, for the last 20 years.

Prior to 1963, Dr. Watt worked in Canada as a biometrician and statistician in various government fisheries, agriculture, and forestry departments.  Since 1963 he has served as an associate professor, professor, or professor emeritus in the Departments of Zoology, Environmental Studies, The Graduate Group in Ecology, and Evolution and Ecology at the University of California, Davis.  The major focus of Dr. Watt's research since 1980 has been on developing a system for long range forecasting of trends in the economies, demographics and social patterns of nations using data-based theories about how societies function over long periods of time.   Since 1997, Dr. Watt has been the Editor in Chief for the Encyclopedia of Human Ecology, the goal of which project is to develop a synthesis of all knowledge, using mathematical models to establish linkages between subject matter areas not previously linked.
